Visit Belle Ame Campus

PLANNING A "DROP-IN" VISIT

Apart from participating in one of our scheduled campus programs or events, you are welcome to visit campus just to look around. Please read the information below to setup the best visit experience, noting that we do not have staff on site at all times.

Contact the Campus Director

If you will reach out ahead of time, the Campus Director can help customize your experience for the amount of time you have available, the ages of the visitors, and what is happening at campus that day.

Please email tim@belleamecenter.org to coordinate your visit.

Arrival & Parking

Please park at the Little House (use the south driveway) that is just off Hwy D. You may park between the back of the house and the small garage. If that parking area is full, please pull farther up the driveway and park on the grass on the north side of the metal barn.

If you have pre-arranged your visit, a staff member will meet you at the Little House. If you have not pre-arranged the visit and do not see someone present, please drive up to the Big House (north driveway) and knock.

If you visit when a program or event is in session, please ask a participant to direct you to the Campus Director or other campus staff.

What to Expect

What you experience on your visit will depend on the time of year, weather, scheduled programs or events, and other factors. Nearly all of campus is out of doors, so please dress appropriately to the weather.

You can generally expect some of the following:

  • Walking tour. If you've arranged in advance, a staff member can show you different areas on campus including the Campus Gardens, meadows, and ponds.

  • Animal tour. Animals bring the joy of nature right up close! We have various animals you can visit and get to know. Please be aware that you should have a staff member with you when interacting with any animals. Please do not open any gates or enter animal areas without a staff member present.

  • Artistic activity. If pre-arranged, campus staff will try to have an artistic activity you can engage in on campus.

  • Play area. There is a sandbox and playhouse in the shade for young children, with benches nearby.

  • Restrooms and water. There is a restroom and water available in the Little House.

PLANNING A GROUP VISIT

If you would like to organize a group visit, such as a field trip, service project, or co-op activity, please contact the Campus Director (tim@belleamecenter.org) to coordinate details.

Campus Visit FAQ

If we are traveling in the area, can we stay overnight on campus?

Our limited campus housing is reserved for participants in scheduled campus programs. At this time we cannot host campers, tent camping, etc.

We are not currently BAAH members, but would still like to drop in and visit. Is that ok?

While campus is being funded by BAAH members and is primarily intended to serve that community, you are welcome to drop in and visit to learn more.

Is there food available for purchase on campus?

There is not. However, there is a wonderful sandwich shop called The Old Cookstove just 2.5 miles away. Check here for open days and hours.

Can we bring our pet?

Any dogs must be kept on a leash. There are farm animals that could be hurt, as well as garden areas that animals such as dogs love to dig up. Other visitors also may have allergies or other concerns.
